I Hate That Dog

April 26, 2007

Barney, my father-in-law’s dog, is staying with us for a couple of weeks and Busydingbat is not happy. She hates that dog! Today, when we came home at lunch to take Barney out, Busydingbat met us at the door. After bringing Barney back in the house we set his leash on the desk. Busydingbat immediately went to it and rolled around with it (it was almost obscene) to make sure she got her scent on all of it. Devious cat.

Birdseed Thief

April 22, 2007

When I went to the kitchen for a drink of water at 3:15 this morning I saw a large blob in the birdfeeder, just outside the window. Realizing it was probably a racoon I stumbled in the dark to find the camera. I snapped a picture and there was no flash, so I headed to another room where I could turn on a light and set the flash. Stumbling back to the kitchen window I stepped in a fresh pile of Busydingbat vomit – great! I snapped a couple of pictures and then went to the back door, quietly opened it, and snapped the two pictures shown here. The mysterious nighttime disappearance of birdseed has now been solved.

For Kitty

April 18, 2007

Hello in There.

As I age along with friends and family this favorite John Prine song evokes more motion. Every time I hear it my Mom-in-Law, Kitty, who passed away a couple of years ago comes to mind. I am convinced this special song was written for Kitty, a special person.

The Assassin

April 15, 2007

Yesterday was a busy day for Busydingbat. Apparently, she had discovered the existence of a mouse in the mudroom. That meant she had to keep sentry on the room all day with occassional forays into the room’s nooks and crannies. There was no sleep all day. About 10:30 last night I was working on the computer when I heard a noise coming from the room. Right away, Busydingbat came running out of the room and deposited her prize at my feet. She looked up at me with a proud expression – do cats do that? Her mission was accomplished and she went to the back of the sofa where she slept all night and all day today – she did not move all day! About 6:30 this evening I got on the sofa to watch some tv. She awoke, climbed down on my leg, and fell asleep as shown. We are not sure that all the mice are gone so we hope she wakes up soon so she can get back to her sentry post.
